So, I'm on holiday at the moment in foreign climes with the kids and the better half, but being a shutterbug I couldn't resist taking a 'proper camera' with me. Sure, my iPhone 7 takes great photos but the optical quality is nowhere near that of my Panasonic gear.

I mused on what to take (I usually prefer using just prime lenses) but in the end settled on my older GX1 with the 14-42mm power zoom (smaller than the manual zoom and much less space than taking the Trinity of primes* I usually have). I took the GX1 because it's my second camera, and smaller and less valuable than the GX7 I usually use. My one conceit was talking the rangefinder because I love the style using it vertically and it's better in direct sunlight.

What I'm missing from the GX7 is the screen quality and the WiFi connectiveness. I like taking Street Photos and the tiltable back screen lets you be much more subtle.

Overall, I'm glad I brought it, even if the bulk of pictures I take will be on the iPhone 7.

Anyone else out there a shutterbug? I still hang out on Flickr if anyone else does: https://www.flickr.com/photos/cybergoths/

*14, 20 and 42mm. Double this for 35mm equivalents as it's a micro 4/3 CSC mirrorless camera.

Returning the favour although admittedly these are iPhone pictures.

I was wondering if there was anyone else...

Well I splurged on. Nikon D7500 a short while ago and the new Nikon mirrorless full frame cameras look amazing, but are pricey and have a new mount (though there is an adapter), so I’m tempted to get a micro four thirds of some kind for street photography and when I don’t want to lug the SLR about. Will definitely have to have a viewfinder though, I can’t exclusively use a screen for composition.

Like Dom, I’m on Flickr - https://www.flickr.com/photos/smudgypixels/

I'm using the viewfinder on the GX1 as it helps in the bright light and there's something about the option of looking down when you shoot.

I still prefer my Panny GF1 with EVF, and yes I often opt for square format and look down.. like my old twin lens reflex.

Just looked at the GX9 which has a tiltable viewfinder! Have had a couple of Lumix 4/3 cameras in the past and have liked them. Umm, something to ponder...

The classic Olympus lines are attractive, are they not? I have a very nice Olympus 45mm in M4/3. It'd look so nice on a new OM-D.. oh no!!
