Completed the rewatch of Edge of Darkness last night. It still stands as one of the most powerful TV dramas that I’ve seen. Clapton and Kamen’s music is perfect and the elements of different parts of the establishment socialising together as their agents face off is chillingly effective.

Troy Kennedy-Martin really hit the bullseye when he wrote this. I'm not such a fan of his scripts for The Sweeney but one of them, Visiting Fireman, is interesting as a prototype for EoD: Sinister government sponsored conspiracy exporting nuclear material to dubious regimes. Cue involvment of shady spook types determined not to let honest coppers anywhere near the truth.

Have you ever seen the film version? I avoided it lest it taint my feelings for this one.

Over the last three days, we've been watching the Back to the Future trilogy back to back. After 35 years, the films are still among my favourites and have stood the test of time. (Yes that was an intended pun).

Folks, APB on Fox (via NowTV)

What the actual?

What would happen if Elon Musk/Tony Stark had a terrible accident and lost one of his nearest due to the police being overstretched, and then decided to use money and clout to muscle in on a Chicago Police District and run it. Upgraded weapons, armour and cars, police reporting app, drones with tasers. This show is so utterly batshit insane it's watchable just to see what predictable tropes they SLAM into each other next.

I anoint it the New Last Ship

If you spot a series on SYFY called Spides - don’t.

Basically somewhere between Orphan Black and Torchwood: Children of Earth. Filmed in Berlin because German TV thought it was too expensive but an American company thought it was good value. Potential, if cookie cutter, but it shows you everything in the first episode. And then the protagonists spend 8 episodes failing at everything.

End up feeling like a 1970’s UK Children’s Teatime SciFi TV series.

Oh the things I’m seeing during lockdown!

Thanks for the call. Has there EVER been a more mis-timed series? Yes this series is Bat-shit crazy. INCREDIBLY badly plotted, despite the good production. However, given the times we’re living in it should be pulled from broadcast. A poor underfunded police department full of well-meaning cops being given high tech weaponry? Potentially incendiary I would have thought.
