[generic] Referee convention analysis paralysis

Referee paralysis. I need to offer some games at upcoming cons. If you’ve played in my games before let me know what you think I should offer again. Or if there are any odd IPs not usually offered I could take on. PLEASE!

The Great Martian Tripod Race is fun. As was the one with the giant spiders on the lost island (sorry can't recall the title).

Odd IPs... how about...?
A Thunderbirds game
A Lassie's Rescue Rangers game
Or a Garth Marenghi's Dark Place game?

I THINK it was “Kong Island Raiders” or “Skull Island Raiders”. (Did you see the other one Martin?)

The others are all strong suggestions but personally I’ve never cracked “PC’s vs The World” games. I’ve got to have clear protagonists. I don’t know how to make aThunderbirds game interesting. It’s just skill checks. (I know skill checks in my games cash have fun unexpected consequences, but would that be enough?)

My weakness

Thanks, though

Not, I believe, one of your games, but I had a blast in a Toon game set in Glorantha. So, why not do something along those lines with characters from one game set in the world of another?
On twitter I post a TTRPG thought of the day. I jot them down on my phone as I think of them. Literally an hour ago I jotted down and idea for a Games Day where referees use different systems for various settings.

Yeah, but would the young of today recognise the tropes? The worry about such an offering is that it would come across as rampant sexism. Us old farts would recognise it and play along, but younger players may not.

If you were to do that, I wouldn’t sequelize one of the films; I’d do a Carry On version of a new property. How about Carry On the Throne (Game of Thrones)? Or a game I played in once, Carry On Up the Empire (Star Wars)?

I think it would have to be a new interpretation with new flaws.

Carry On would have to come with an inclusivity and anti-harassment chat up front - which would include an explanation as to why Sid James’ characters are NPC villains. It think it’d be workable but need careful handling. I couldn’t do new genres cos I lik to take photos off of google to put on the character sheets and I don’t think there are any photos of Charles Hawtry in a spacesuit.

Turns out there’s still a demand for Blakes Seven which has solved my issue in the short term. Also apparently there isn’t much “Matrix” TTRPG stuff out there. There’s definitely room for a Matrix/Tron/Jumanji game.

Why not turn it around and have the 'Lost Spiders on the Giant Island'?

Thunderbirds had the Hood. How about something based around 'The Mighty Atom', a race against time to shut down a runaway atomic reactor whilst trying to stop the Hood generally buggering things up?
