And the demigod of the Kickstarter table top RPG space does it again,. Guess what? Plans afoot to introduce his masterpiece city of Ptolus to 5th Edition D&D this February.

And there is a Cypher System version planned for those fans of MontecCook who have grown out of D&D.
Unlike most I'd probably go Cypher with this, though I could run it with Pathfinder. However it will be huge and expensive, so I'll probably pass.

Shipping a 700 page tome does not come cheap. Gone is the short lived era of minimalism. We are back to harvesting tons of dead trees.

I am torn between the Cupher edition of Ptolus and the 5th Edition.

With Cypher, I get an extra fully fleshed Recursion for The Stranger RPG.

But I do not have a good high fantasy Campaign Setting for 5th Edition D&D. My Adventures in Middle-earth are too Tolkein-esque to check all D&D5e leveling up boxes.

And those complaining about the expected high price of the regular edition, are forgetting that Monte Cook is also notorious for publishing special editions on Kickstarter,. Those exhobitantly priced versions are custom made to appeal to the erudite scions of the Cult of Monte.

I'm bizarrely tempted. But yes, there's price. I remember it being around the £100 mark when the old 3rd edition book came out; it will be more now. Though the old 3e print on demand is "only" around £70 on DrivethruRPG for standard colour (this is not a dig - print on demand is expensive for something so big).

But nonetheless....tempted. It will be the D&Dest of all D&D settings.
