I used to think that producing an #TTRPG as a promotional item to accompany a movie was a no-brainier. Hell, I’ve even contacted people a couple of times offering to write an #TTRPG for their IP. (Last one was Year of the Rabbit. No reply, natch.)
But I’m beginning to think that it’s not such an obvious match. An #TTRPG based on a new movie would necessarily contain spoilers. It would also need to expand the setting beyond what was shown in the movie. Neither of these is desirable.
I guess its best to let a movie settle for a couple of years, become a classic and then write the game. (How long after Star Wars came out was the first game? Before or after Empire and Jedi?)
