Recently finished up our A/state Canpaign, won't we starting another until post Conception in the new year.
At the club I've just finished up running a 3 week Christmas game of Call of Cthulhu called A Ttiffle Bizarre, a version of which is likely to do the rounds a Cons next year.
2010 will start will a 5 week run of Hot War where London has been plunged into civil war after the assassination of Harold Macmillan during a Coup d'état by Henry Brooke. _________________ O rose, thou art sick! The invisible worm,

AE finally finished as one of the players is moving away (got a job in Reading).
Stargate wrapped after another fun few months - the more I play that setting the more I think it's a cracking setting for episodic beer & pretzels gaming.
So currently quite quiet on the gaming front - just started Chapter 4 of my 1920's Yorkshire Call of Cthulhu campaign, with a headless corpse being found in the Burdale Tunnel...
Not thinking about additional games as yet, but I'm fairly certain that by early January I'll have another game on the go, whether I'm running or playing...

I'm very much looking forward to the Diaspora game and to try out Fate. I've played Fate, SoTC, at Furnace, and enjoyed it immensely. I think the Diaspora version is cleaner and will be interested to see how it plays out.
I attend TomCons and look forward to trying out all sorts of wonderful games there.
Short term that's probably about it. I need to get a Wordplay convention style scenario sorted for next year for Con-Quest and Continuum and maybe the Cow. A Hellfrost setting game might be nice.
The Cubicle 7 stack is very high. Hellfrost will get an early airing in some way, but also wonder if I might wheel out Qin again. Barbarians of Lemuria might make a nice Tom Con game and some kind of Starblazers/Diaspora mash-up isn't beyond the realms of the possible.
Ah, speculation. Still it's nice to think about this! _________________ First Age

My weekly group has just finished King of the Trollhaunt Warrens (D&D 4e) which was highly enjoyable and involved some great encounters with a range of monsters (and yes lots and lots of trolls).
We are now at the heady heights of 14th level (we all started at lvl 1 and are following the published adventures which take you through the levels) and my Rogue and the rest of the party (consisting of a Fighter, Warlord, Warlock and a Wizard) are about to take up the challenge of the Demon Queen's Enclave, an adventure set in the underdark.
Kitted out with my newly acquired dark vision goggles (I reckon it's gonna be dark) we start the adventure proper next week _________________ Take what ya can....give nothing back. |

We gave WFRP 3 a test run last weekend. We had three players, a High Elf Thief, a Human Agent and a Dwarf Troll Slayer (as if he could be anything else). We ran through character gen which is actually fairly painless although quite daunting to start with. I think we ended up with three balanced characters with no one character standing head and shoulders above the rest.
As for the shiny stuff such as the dice, character sheet, action cards, feats and party card it is all gorgeous. When the ref first unpacked the box in front of us it was a bit daunting at how much stuff there was, however, when you strip out the bits that don’t affect your character it’s much more manageable.
As for the game play we got the hang of building the dice pools quite quickly and of scanning the results to see if we had hit, missed, had a boon or a misfortune and whether chaos or Signmar were hindering or helping. When I first saw the dice I was dubious but after playing for a short space of time it works rather well. The results actually allow you to be descriptive, especially with the boon/misfortune element.
As far as taking damage goes WFRP is still a grim world of perilous adventure and you can get hurt real quick! Crits now work slightly differently, when you take a wounds you are given a number of cards, if you take a crit you turn one random card over and this tells you the effect of the crit. Again this is a nice mechanic which allows you to be descriptive depending on the result.
It’s impossible to give a complete breakdown here as it would take forever. The good things are:
1. It is very well produced.
2. You get a lot of kit in the box.
3. The new system seems to work out of the box without any major problems.
4. It feels like WFRP, sounds silly but WFRP has always had a definite feel and it would have been sad to loose that.
The bad things are:
1. It is expensive.
2. You only get enough kit for 3 players in the starter box, additional players need to buy an expansion that costs about £25.00.
Overall, pleasantly surprised and would happily play it again. _________________ Take what ya can....give nothing back. |
